Yeah, it’s more AI videos, bite me, this shit sucks so bad. This is the first video I’ve watched that hits extra close to home, since it’s about GenAI in music, a topic that is VERY important to me. Neely is a great musician and video essayist, and manages to to break the whole thing down in a way that makes it clear where he stands, with enough openness that someone that likes AI might watch enough to actually learn something.

This video gets first billing simply for a procrastination-shattering transition when the video moves into the politics of it all. You’ll know it when you hear it. Literally made me boot up my editor and start putting this together. Inspiration through released frustration via medium of shouting or something.

GenAI makes me swing wildly between being depressed about the state of the world and being angry at the state of the world. This video deserves a shoutout because it takes those feeling, and tries to refocus the viewer on their own creativity. Shit sucks, but we can’t let them keep us down. This is something I struggle heavily with, so I really appreciate content like this. I even turned on my synths for a bit this week!

Completely new creator for me, but unfortunately, a topic I am all to familiar with. I’ve been in the metal scene for almost two decades now (oh god), been to countless concerts, from tiny local shows to huge festivals, and organized local shows for several years. While it has always baffled me, it is an unfortunate reality that there are bigots and fascists in our midst, and the thing of “Metalheads look evil, but are the nicest people!” has given cover to those people by being taken as “Metalheads CAN’T be evil”.

Don’t want to go on a whole tirade, but I. Hate. These. Assholes! I’m a cishet white dude and attract these dudes (let’s be real, it’s mostly dudes), they feel reeeaaal comfortable around me, so I’ve heard some shit! And people wonder why we have a diversity problem in the scene …

Defunctland consistently puts out great videos with excellent production quality, so this kinda feels like a cheat entry, but let me tell you, if you’ve never watched his stuff because the topics don’t interest you before watching, just put one on and suddenly 4 hours have passed. I also absolutely need my background noise, and thought organization systems, and memory helpers, so I’ll probably never land on the fully offline end of things. Worth it as a motivational goal though.
